Confirm that Fordham Leadership Academy for Business and Technology belongs on the list (drop the asterisk).
Add Pablo Neruda and the Gautier Institute (with asterisks, for now).

Publication of the Do Not Apply list for Bronx high schools generated some discussion and e-mail traffic. Here is the original post, with comments.
Here is the amended list:
- Bronx Aerospace HS (+) (in the Evander building) (follow up)
- Eximius College Prep HS (near Crotona Park) (follow up)
- Bronx Theater HS (in the JFK building)
- DIscovery HS (in the Walton building)
- Fordham HS of the Arts (in the Theodore Roosevelt building)

FLABT had an asterisk last time, because it had been a career ender, but my info was two years old. A former teacher contacted someone with more recent info. Here are some observations:
Everyone that can get out is looking. This includes non- pedagogues. Three of the teachers that Bost hired left, one in the middle of the year [mistreated]. It is really bad because the administration intimidates teachers by observing them in teams of two’s and three’s. … Sadly, everyone in the building knows about Bost because he has shown his true colors several times. … so much chaos at the school that the student’s programs are not done. … Programming changes were still being done in late May.
There are further details, some much worse than what I have reproduced. But the case is clear enough. Fordham Leadership? Don’t apply.
I got separate notes suggesting I add Gautier and Pablo Neruda. The note about Gautier came from a source I trust, but I will leave the asterisk there until I have details. Pablo Neruda came with some notes:
10 of the 30 teachers left, the new principal is horrible and grossly inexperienced. And he discontinued teachers for no pedagogical or apparent reason.
That’s right on the line, and probably belongs on the list. I will be speaking with someone who has more direct knowledge in the next week or so, and will likely confirm Neruda’s inclusion.
To those of you with requests for Brooklyn and Manhattan, I am trying, but finding good sources is hard. We really need to get the turnover rates published. That raw data tells such a huge portion of the story – and it is enough for determining that you don’t want to work at a school.
And for those of you with first-hand knowledge, e-mail me, let me know what schools belong on the list, as it spreads to other boroughs. If you help one new teacher avoid falling into a career-ending hellhole, it will have been worth it.

It is a shame that the REAL problems are not being TAKEN care of at Eximius. J. Klien and all of the DOE knows about this school. EVERYONE SUFFERS AT THE SCHOOL. The only one who enjoys the torture is the Principal. Yes this school is run just like the Mafia. Connections and all. The real shame is that education in Americia has lost it’s hope unless we all stand up in unity for each other. Teachers, Students, Principals and DOE. People left this school because of it’s daily tourture and a lack of futhering the goal of their passion teaching. Every place has its problem, but this place is a bomb set for explosion ANY DAY NOW.. We have lost the respect for one another completly. Now tell me how are we all going to live on one floor[3rd]. We are ready had limited space. If 22 teachers left this year again, then how are we going to achieve. Education for the students is at a all time low. Grades 6-12 can not be on one floor. This is a fire hazzard and a overcapacity issue. This is not elementary school. SAME BULLS—T JUST ANOTHER YEAR. GREAT PEOPLE HAVE WALKED THRU EXIMIUS DOORS. TEACHERS, STUDENTS AND ADMINSTRATION,YOU ARE GLADLY MISS. BUT WHAT HAPPENS TO THE FAITHFUL FEW WHO ENDURES TO THE END. SO THE MISSION GOES ON.IF YOU WANT YOUR 12GRADER TO GRADUATE THIS YEAR ……..PARENTS YOU BETTER BE ON YOUR TOES!
DOE should have been listening at least 2 years ago. I think that if turnover is as high as I have been hearing, then the DOE will probably act. This has been going on for 4 yrs are far as I have been told.
How can Eximius keep hiring teachers if the enrollment is dropping?
For example, I came across this employment ad for a history teacher at Eximius (http://www.jobster.com/find/details/for/job/65378566?lid=schoolstaffinc_js_result&lpos=js_10)
Funny thing is, it says “history teacher” but the ad also says they’re hiring for English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Langauge, Technology, ELL and SETSS teachers.
Why one ad for all of these positions? “Uh….we are hiring a history teacher and uh….we need teachers for every department so if you know someone with a pulse…..uh…I mean , a teaching license who doesn’t mind being abused…uh…I mean being a role model…then bring them along. Red flags no? :)
Well up until this year eximis has been adding a grade…this is why they needed teachers in all departments.
What about the role that the Leadership Academy plays into creating these monsters principals?
I STARTED WORKING THERE IN July of 2008. It seemed so nice until September came and the principal changed everythings the rules and regulations! She doesn’t care about anybody but herself. She’s rude and very disrespectiful towards her staff. PARENTS ARE ALWAYS TURNED AWAY AND NOT HELPED IN A PROFESSIONAL MATTER!! Also there is a time frame to handle a parnt’s needs, which is only five minutes! Their is no way anyone can handle a parent’s concern in that time frame. She doen’t have children so she doesn’t care. If you send your child to school without a complete uniform your child will be sent home! No matter how young or far you live! If your child is sick there is no nurse and the staff in the office often do not even call EMS. A student nearly died in September because the family worker did not want to call EMS……….. So please we need to do something with this principal!Help us!!!!!!!!
My children’s campus school was opened 6 years ago. I thought the principal did a really good job, but he retired. The present prinicipal does not have the people skills of the former; very aggressively defensive whenever she hears somthing ‘not good’ about the school and staff. Flips the problem back to you or your child – it’s your fault. Oh well, I guess at least the teacher is not hounded to death. But is this good?
My first job (horrible!!)m experience left me wary. I have been turning down possible jobs. Living on a shrinking bank account, rather than get a nervous breakdown (and leave my own kids orphans)!!. My first time reading this website and I am appalled at how bad it is!!! Yet I hear that teachers are being recruited from overseas to teach here?? Talk about culture shock. I read from a Filipino paper that a scholarly Filipino teacher in NJ committed suicide – too many problems to handle. ANd nobody to help. Poor kid. I feel bad for my countryperson. I have been sub-ing and it’s not fun. But at least you don’t have to come back if you don’t like it.
The Felisa Rincon Gautier Institute is runned by a 6th grader, who throws tandrums, gets ghetto, and is less articulate than her struggling reading, and math students………….she pals around with some femalesteachers
Yes, I heard of how the principal at the Felisa Rincon school actually prompts kids to lie on teachers, she is dangerous!She is a major liar herself!She has defamed the characters of more than one of her teachers, by placing false charges on them, without any proof! What goes around comes around!!All of these administrators will reap what they sow, it is just the way life is! It is called Karma, and it is also a Biblical principle!Do not fret about these administrators! leave them in God’s hands!!
I heard that they are going to close the building of the Felisa Rincon school due to the fact that it is built on toxic material……it is also headed by toxic individuals too!

This is a real shame.
How can you be a school leader at the age of 24? You need experience to understand the nature of teaching. Teaching for two years and then becoming a principal does not make you an education leader! This principal, who did not even receive tenure in her teaching license, is telling teachers how to teach. Do medical students tell doctors how to operate? She doesn’t even understand the methodoloyg of teaching unless she quotes it from a book. If she reads from a book, then she tells teachers how to teach! There’s no experience for her to share with the teaching staff. She has no empathy for the teaching staff. She’s numbers, data, statistics, reports,etc. When teachers do show her the data why certain programs are not working, she does not want to hear it because it’s not following her agenda of ignorance. Klein allowed her to be in charge of a school with so much responsibility when she really should be in charge of growing up and maturing in this system. I feel that the students, in the end, are short-changed because a true, experienced educator was not chosen to run the school. The ironic part here is that students see how incompetent she is and they are so displeased with the school. How very sad!
I forget to mention that the school is Felisa Rincion de Gautier where the principal became a principal at 24 now 30. By the way, the assistant principals are not any better. Three incompetent administrators and teachers are being blamed for not promoting students to next level.
