Tragically, British exam papers now routinely and exclusively use “a dice” (I feel dirty even typing it) lest “a die” confuse the less mentally endowed. I am ashamed.
I don’t know that it would be any better here, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it written in a newspaper. (correctly or otherwise)
